Rupit to Mas La Serra : 10.5 miles

Often on ATG walks you’re offered a choice of routes to reach the next point on your itinerary. Needless to say we chose the longer walks on this trip.

“Day 2  Rupit to Mas La Serra via La Salut: From Rupit, pass the Salt de Sallent, follow paths along the edge of the Collsacabra with splendid views, then walk through open grassy pastures and woodland to the superbly situated Santuari de Nostra Senyora de la Salut, before continuing on to accommodation in a spectacular setting (10.2 miles, 5 hrs).” [As usual we made some detours and covered more mileage than this … and took longer, of course]

The Route Booklet adds this :

The beginning of the route is the same as yesterday’s circular walk and then the route follows the edge of the Collascabre with spectacular views and fascinating rock formations. There are two or three viewing points which may not be suitable for anyone suffering from vertigo, but you can keep well away from these if you wish and the path is otherwise fairly wide and well away from the edge. Having left the cliffs, your path then climbs up to the Coll de Condreu (past a restaurant approx. 6 miles into the walk) before dropping through beech woods to La Salut.”

Here are those spectacular views :

And the full height of the waterfall was impossible to capture … without going nearer the edge!!

The Santuari : a lovely spot 1,000 m high with a vast panoramic view over the Garrotxa region. It’s a popular place for weddings and, conveniently, there’s a very smart restaurant on-site!

We arrived at Mas La Serra before the rain started!

Mas La Serra is a farm dating back to the 16th century. It operates sheep farming and fodder agriculture alongside the rural accommodation side of the business.

Such a lovely time of year to be up on these mountains. I can see there were plenty of flowers along the way, and such clear, spectacular views.

  2. Fran, this was one of our best ATGs but it’s always hard to put them in any order they have all been good and had their own charms. Yes lots to interest the botanists in May. In fact we had to re-trace our steps quite a few times after following butterflies and spotting flower colours. Wonderful view, too.

Wow. Looks like a great walk. And beautiful blue skies too.
Guess we’re both tired after our respective recent adventures 😀

    • Yes. I’m looking forward to your posts about St Cuthbert’s Way. I’ve walked much of it in parts and we met many people on our Scottish Borders walk last June who were walking it in the opposite direction from us – at least 10 walking companies were operating along that stretch.

To come soon. But we cheated. Time constraints meant we couldn’t tackle the whole route – and one of our party didn’t feel they could manage all 60 miles. But a good experience, nevertheless 🙂

So very beautiful – hard to imagine. The green is calling me in my “high desert.”
